250th Program: Calligraphy That Inspired a Nation: Write Like America's Founders In-Person

During this 90-minute program, attendees will learn how people wrote during the colonial period, what they wrote with, and on what they wrote. Our presenter, Debby Reelitz, will share pictures of famous colonists, their desks, and writing. Samples will range from Phillis Wheatley to George Washington to John Hancock. Next, all participants will learn how to set up their own writing desk, paper, nibs, and ink. Lettering samples and instructions will be provided so participants can write in cursive with a dip nib and ink. The end goal is to create a signature for themselves that is inspired by signatures from colonial times.  All materials will be provided.

Presenter: Debby Reelitz is an experienced calligrapher with almost 30 years of experience as a professional lettering artist. We are delighted to welcome her to the library from her studio in North Granby, CT.

This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Merrimack Public Library.
